Unhitched and unhinged...random musings from the road

And yes...that is an actual fortune cookie from lunch in Glenwood Springs Colorado!!

Everyone we've met on the road has been super nice. From the guy at Zion who helped us back into a tight site (to be fair it was tight because his truck was blocking part of the road). To the guy in Colorado who lent us his lighter to start a fire (some backpackers in Zion broke mine when I lent it to them). And the gal at the state park who checked us in to our campsite and told us what trails to hike (interspersed in a fifteen minute, no breath, non-stop monologue about her injured hand, her horses, yada-yada-yada).

We've given plenty of tours of the Tin Poodle. And we've taken plenty of tours of other trailers. An Alto belonging to a couple from Washington State (we learned about stove top camping toasters).

A newer Airstream from a couple on the West Coast (Nancy was drooling over the propane baking oven).

And an older Airstream named Lucille from a couple in Utah (space, space, and more space).

On the “unhinged” front...we're not the only unhinged people who think traveling in a trailer with dogs is fun. Although we are the only ones we've seen with three dogs.

The dogs have been making friends too. They even met a long lost cousin from Wyoming.

And another from Colorado

Speaking of unhinged, full unhinged is...

As we're enjoying a quiet night with a beautiful sunset, cooking burgers over an open fire, a large van pulling an even larger trailer, followed by a large pickup truck parks in the site right across from ours. Eight kids pour out and immediately draw a chalk court on the road between us and start playing some game with a soccer ball.

The dad steps around the trailer, waves to me and says, “Have you ever heard of the expression there goes the neighborhood. Well that's what people say when we pull up!”

In all fairness the kids were very good and the family was very nice and pleasant. And the soccer ball managed to miss hitting our car and trailer...mostly....

Finally on the unhinged front, Nancy has not been unhinged once...
(Those who know her political passion know what I mean). She has had only one conversation on politics this whole trip. And I think she may be in withdrawal as our current campsite has no internet to check twitter!
