The Route: Part 1...Map (out)

Destination:  Las Vegas
Miles:  2531
Days:  6
Driving time: 39 hours
Charging time: 10 hours
Charging stops: 22

Las Vegas you say.  I thought you said this was a trip to Glacier National Park.  Well it was...until it wasn't.  You see....

I'm not sure I mentioned this earlier but we don't actually have the Tin Poodle in our possession.  We own it (as of 4/1).  It is titled and has tags and insurance.  We just don't physically have it in our possession.

Digressing a bit, Bowlus is based out of Oxnard California.  Each Road Chief is hand made to order with a several month period between ordering and delivery.  So we ordered it last summer and asked for a Spring delivery.  (We could have had a late Autumn or Winter delivery, but that didn't fit our schedule.)

"Now wait.  First Glacier, now Oxnard.  But the map says Las Vegas.  I'm confused."

So the choices for delivery are Oxnard CA, Henderson NV, or shipping cross country.  We decided on the Henderson location since it's closer and avoids having to deal with taking delivery in CA where you have to pay vehicle tax and then apply for a refund of the vehicle tax.

The above is the trip OUT to pick up the Tin Poodle. Basically a six day road trip with three dogs, stopping each night at dog friendly hotels (thanks to BringFido.com for making it easy to find and book the rooms).

More on the trip route back in the next post.

  1. Thanks for this...I will "follow" along for sure!
It will be interesting to see the range difference between no trailer and trailer.
The idea of a slow roll without the "I gotta get there" makes the range kind of irrelevant...and I like that.

    1. The next post will get more into the "slow roll" on the return. It will probably take a month on the return journey, driving one day and taking one to three days off from driving.

Even better and more leisurely would be three to fourteen day stops. But our schedule does not allow quite that much leisure (I do need to get back to my job).
