Day3: The Secret Lives of Pets, Nancy Follies, and "Adult Toy" Superstores

Act 1...Tech
So if it isn't obvious by now we're a bit into tech.  Electric cars, aircraft grade aluminum travel trailer, etc.  I'm going to go in two pieces of tech we use for the dogs.

One of the nice things about the Tesla is that we can control and monitor the climate remotely.  Either from the Tesla app on a smartphone or a third party app (I use an app on my Fenix 5 smartwatch).  This allows us to lock the car with the dogs still in it and know they are safe.  


We also put signs on the windows to let people know the dogs are safe. And a contact phone number just in case they feel the urge to break the window.

And just to make sure the dogs aren't getting into too much trouble we have a remote web cam in the car to monitor the dogs and the temp.  The camera is connected to a mobile wifi hot spot in the car.

So it was a little warm in Kansas today with the afternoon temp around 80.  When we grabbed an early dinner while charging we left the dogs in car with the A/C on.  Checking on them remotely we saw this:


That's the oldest, Athy, who has climbed into the front seat to bask in the blowing A/C straight from the vents!

Act 3...Nancy

 A few Nancy "follies" today.  This is her in the middle of a teleconference while charging.  I told her that she doesn't need to talk with her hands on a teleconference.


And this is her trying to get rid of her hiccups.  Don't ask.



Bonus act...
Going through Missouri I counted at least six "Adult Toy" Superstores right off I-70.  What's up with that?  Is that why it's called the Show Me State?

    She's clearly drinking upside-down to get rid of her hiccups. Works every time!

    The video of me on ground was due to trying to get rid of hiccups. Sure fire way to get rid of hiccups...drink “upside down” from the opposite side of glass, cup or in this case bottle. Works every time.

    I am still laughing! The dog video - basking in the air conditioning:) and of course I knew what you, Nancy, were doing, trying to get rid of your hiccups. We all know there is one sure fire way, drinking water from the wrong side of the glass. And of course you need your hands to talk! happy riding.

Extended boondocking

We just got back from three weeks on the road. Almost all of it was boondocking without electrical hookups.  Without an external electricity source the battery in our trailer can probably supply electricity for about 4-5 days before needing to be recharged.  We were able to go ten days easily by  keeping the trailer plugged into the 7-way connector on the Model X almost all the time. We only needed to plug the trailer into an electrical outlet once during the trip in order to recharge our lead acid trailer battery. We did that during a planned overnight stay when we moving from one location the next. Overall we were really happy with our ability to stay off grid with this combo. Some observations. Over one ten day stretch our trailer battery went from 100% to 52% (120aH from trailer battery) Over another eight day stretch our trailer battery went from 100% to 70% (~72AH from trailer battery) The MX on average was supplying ~2-3amp/hour to the trailer (depending on SOC of the trailer ba

Just returned from our “quick”, five week coast to coast jaunt and back.  Some quick stats. tldr version We traveled 7,000 miles cross country and back with our Bowlus and paid $0 in fuel costs First day of trip Detailed version Mileage traveled 7,000 miles traveled in total (6,000 miles towing Bowlus, 1,000 miles sans trailer) Energy used 3280 kWh (2904 kWh towing, 376 kWh not towing) Average energy consumption 484 watt/mile towing (highway speed range 55-67 mph) 376 watt/mile not towing (highway speed range 70-85 mph) *Cost of “fuel” for trip $0 (Compared to ~$3000 in gas if we had done the trip with a similarly sized SUV.) *We have unlimited free supercharging with our Model X.  If we had a newer Model X and had to pay for electricity the cost would have been ~$1200.  This still would have been significantly less than towing with an ICE vehicle.
