"Tiny house" living

One of the challenges of being on the road for three months is the efficient use of space. The Bowlus is a roomy, comfy, cozy camper for two people. Plenty of drawers, closets and storage space.

But when you add in three dogs it becomes a little less roomy and a lot more “cozy” 😟

In order to stay sane we've managed to develop a routine for storing stuff so as to maximize the space. It consists of repurposing space for different tasks.

On travel days:

Back two rows of seats in the car are for the dogs. Basically the size of a small pickup truck bed when the seats are folded down.

Second row floor and under seats holds seldom used stuff (extra food, paper goods, tools, etc)

Storage space underneath back floor of car is for water hoses, Tesla charging cords, Bowlus electrical cords, and dog food.

Frunk holds all the outside and dirty stuff (mats/rugs, canopy, big green tent, grey water hose)

In the Bowlus anything on the counters or that might fall off shelves gets packed in a travel bag. The rest of the stuff on shelves travels on the shelves. The bags are then secured in the bedroom. Our trailer setup kit (miscellaneous items needed for the trailer) are kept in a box just inside the front door of the trailer where they can be easily accessed.

On non-travel days:

Everything in the trailer bags gets put back onto the counters and shelves.

The dogs get to moved into the trailer.

Things stored in the frunk and back storage compartment (cords, mats, rugs, canopy, tent, etc) get unpacked and put into use.

The trailer setup kit box gets moved into the back of the car.

Inside the trailer we also have a similar ballet. During the day we use the bedroom as a storage room. Coats, camera bags, and other miscellaneous sundries are stored there. At night everything in the bedroom gets moved onto the dining area seats (so the dogs don't sleep on our seats). They get to sleep on the couch and floor.

The shower and microwave also serve double duty. Shower when required...closet for dirty laundry and other miscellaneous items the rest of the time. Microwave when required...pantry for chips and such the rest of the time.

Finally when the front tent is up we use that for storing all the muddy shoes and dog leashes. It also is the staging area for getting the dogs in and out of the trailer.
