    Enjoyed following your trip. So what is your overall impression of the Bowlus Road Chief? Would you do buy it again knowing what you know now? Did you notice any problems with the standard Tesla tow hitch?

    Overall we really love the Bowlus. Works well for us and the dogs. Besides the trip cross country we've done several other shorter trips and continue to enjoy traveling with it.

    We've seen plenty of other trailers this last year. Everything from homemade "sleeping bags on wheels" to huge class A's and fifth wheels. We've discussed the advantages and disadvantages of each. Other than an oven we've decided that there is nothing in the other trailers we really need or want.

    No problems with the standard tow hitch. As I mentioned in a previous post I moved the electrical connector, modified the door, and put tow chain extensions on to make the hitching process easier.

    One caveat on the tow hitch. Our trailer is on the lighter side and squarely in the middle of the rating for the hitch. Some people towing trailers closer to the upper rating limit have described some play in the hitch. Some have put on an aftermarket draw-tite hitch.

No matter how many times you read the manual there's no substitute for experience. With that in mind... Charging with a trailer for the first time (part 1) After picking up the Tin Poodle the plan was to head to the Tesla Supercharger in North Vegas to “top off” and then head to Valley of Fire State Park. As we pulled up to the Supercharger we quickly realized there was a problem. The Supercharger was located in a parking garage. Pulling the Tin Poodle into a parking structure with low clearance was a definite no go. We considered disconnecting the Tin Poodle and just pulling in with the Model X.  We decided against this since the area was urban and parking the Tin Poodle without the Tesla was going to be a challenge. This next story happened earlier in the trip in Nova Scotia. I'm just getting around to recounting. It takes place in the parking lot of a small shopping center. As per our usual routine we parked the trailer and the Tesla on the edge of the lot. We were both going into the store so we left the dogs in the Tesla with the A/C on for the dogs. (One of the great things about the Tesla is that the AC can be on without the car otherwise being on. No idling engine needed.) Also per our routine we plastered several signs on the windshield and windows alerting people to the fact that the A/C is on, the dogs are ok, and a phone number they can reach us is they have concerns. Long version Since picking up the Tin Poodle outside of Las Vegas we've travelled just over 3000 miles (and still have about 500 more to go).  We've travelled through nine states (with at least two more to go).  And we've charged at twenty Tesla superchargers. It's that last number, twenty superchargers, that I'm going to write about today.  More specifically how to charge a Tesla on a cross country trip while towing a trailer.  Here's the breakdown: Overnight charging We made a point of only staying in campgrounds that had electrical infrastructure at our site.  Mostly 240V/50A and occasionally 120V/30A.
